About me

Thursday April 21, 2005 - Permanent link to this post - Comments [2]

Pixelicious is the online home of Peter J.Lambert (that's me, but in the third person), a web designer/developer currently working and living in York, UK.

Me

A photograph of Peter J.Lambert as a small child

A bit of history about me (that's me again, but now in the first person. Still with me?): I was born in 1980 in the sleepy northern hamlet of Bradford, now famous for its gun crime, riots and chicken dopiaza. I left home in 1998 to study Media Technology at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside (if anybody asks, I “studied in Hull”) where I initially wanted to go on to be a television cameraman. However, things weren't destined to go that way as I got a taste of the web and got hold of a warezed copy of Dreamweaver 3. I concentrated on the web side of things for most of the course and in 2001 graduated and came to York to work as a web designer. And here I've stayed.

I have a wife, Nicola, who I met on holiday in Crete in 1999, held a long distance relationship with for 2 years and then married in Tobago in 2002. We now have a little boy, Miles James Lambert who was born on 9th April 2005 and rocks both our worlds.

My work

For the past few of years I've been designing and developing web sites with web-standards in mind. Looking back on the work I was doing before I discovered XHTML and CSS, I don't know how I got away with it.

I don't really talk about my work-work on this site. I've read too many cautionary tales from people who've lost their jobs for speaking their minds. I may occasionally mention work I've done outside-of-work, which at the moment isn't a vast amount, but my portfolio is growing and I'll probably give it a section of its own on this site before long.

This site

I've had an intermittent online presence for about five years, but in September 2003 I started Pixelicious as a personal blog, and it's stayed as such since. As I say, I don't talk too much about work on here, it's mostly personal stuff and nonsense.

I'd tell you about the design, but that's going to be changing before long, so really, you don't need to know. What I can tell you is that this site uses Textpattern for it's content management, with a little help from Flickr and Del.icio.us. It's coded in XHTML 1.0 Strict and styled with CSS. The Duck Logo was beautifully hand-crafted by the beautifully crafty hands of one Rob Mientjes.
